Abstract

Oral diseases continued to be a global public health challenge because of delays in diagnosis and differences in treatment outcomes. The objective of this study was to assess the potential relevance of genomic biomarkers for early detection and personalized management of oral diseases by evaluating their contribution towards diagnostic accuracy, clinical utility, implementation barriers, and patient outcomes. This study adopted a quantitative cross-sectional strategy where data were collected from 385 respondents through the use of a structured questionnaire. The gathered data were evaluated using descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics in SPSS. In regard to the results, respondents strongly agreed that genomics biomarkers improved early detection of oral diseases, positively enhanced diagnostic value, aided personalized optimal treatment planning and offered critical clinical decision-making. Nonetheless, high testing costs, low public awareness and healthcare infrastructure, and ethics-and-policy concerns were cited as a few of the most critical barriers to implementation. The study also demonstrated that the use of combined genomic biomarkers, further facilitated treatment success along with a reduction in disease-related burden and an improved quality of life for patients. Overall, the study concluded that genomic biomarkers would be a novel and developing tool to stimulate precision dentistry by means of earlier diagnosis and personalized oral healthcare delivery. To promote successful implementation in routine practice, it was also recommended to strengthen genomic infrastructure, workforce training and enact supportive healthcare policies.
