Abstract

This study examined the effect of a structured Suryanamaskar practice programme on concentration ability among university students at Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, using the VTS Test Form S4. The intervention consisted of a structured Suryanamaskar programme preceded by an opening prayer and sukshma vyayam (loosening exercises) and followed by a closing prayer and a deep relaxation technique, including merudandasana and savasana. Forty participants were selected through simple random sampling, with 20 assigned to the experimental group and 20 to the control group. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments. Results showed a significant increase in concentration ability, with the mean score rising from 56.35 to 74.65. A paired sample t-test confirmed the effectiveness of the intervention (t=-4.09, p<.001). After controlling for the pre-test score, a significant effect was observed (F=40.08, df=1, p<.001, n2p=.52), indicating significant improvement in the experimental group, while no significant change occurred in the control group, which received no treatment. Findings highlight the potential of Suryanamasakr for improving concentration ability among university students and contributing to overall health promotion. The findings support integrating Suryanamaskar into educational and wellness programmes and suggest future research on the long-term sustainability of concentration improvement and the psychological mechanism underlying these outcomes.
