Abstract

Appropriate nutrition plays a critical role in maintaining overall health, yet many individuals face challenges in managing their weight due to unhealthy eating habits, which can elevate the risk of various health conditions, including mental health disorders. This study investigates the food choices and weight management behaviors of children from farming families residing in Davao City, examining the potential relationship between these variables. Employing a correlational research design, the study surveyed 100 students from farming backgrounds who relocated to Davao City for educational purposes. The Food Choice Questionnaire was utilized to evaluate their weight management behaviors. Results revealed that sensory appeal, health considerations, and price were the predominant factors influencing food choices, whereas ethical concerns and weight control were less impactful. Participants demonstrated strong weight management behaviors, with perceived benefits and exercise self-efficacy receiving the highest scores, and perceived barriers rated the lowest. A significant correlation was identified between food choices and body weight management, suggesting that healthier food selections contribute positively to weight management, although other factors such as physical activity, genetics, and lifestyle also play influential roles.
