Abstract

The anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immune-modulatory properties of licorice have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. This review examines its effectiveness in treating skin ailments. From 2000 to 2025, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane databases were searched for clinical trials, in vitro, or in vivo studies. Data were synthesized thematically. Licorice extract demonstrates promising efficacy in treating acne vulgaris, rosacea, and atopic dermatitis. Glycyrrhizin, licochalcone A, and glabridin are among the main active compounds. Despite the need for higher-quality RCTs, licorice extract is a safe and effective adjunct for treating skin disorders
