Abstract

This bibliometric analysis examines the impacts of cropping systems on plant biodiversity and the dynamics of invasive plants in irrigated areas between 2010 and 2025. Using data from Google Scholar and OpenAlex via Publish or Perish, a PRISMA selection process was conducted, and 407 articles were analysed using R and VOSviewer. This analysis highlights thematic trends and the co-occurrence of keywords. Scientific output is on the rise, peaking at 127 articles in 2024. The study reveals a high degree of interdisciplinarity and two main research areas within the field of agriculture and forestry (ACP): intensive systems as opposed to diversified/agroecological systems (61.44% of the variance) and anthropogenic-agronomic factors (28.72%), notably fertilisation, irrigation, tillage and monoculture. The institutional network is dominated by University Putra Malaysia and Asia, whilst Africa remains under-represented. Irrigated intensification, monoculture, chemical inputs and landscape simplification reduce biodiversity and encourage the spread of invasive species. The study recommends agroecological practices, diversified water and crop management, reduced use of inputs and habitat conservation.
